New Beginnings Block of the Month quilt patterns are NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Wow - where did 2016 go??? We had a blast making our New Beginnings Block of the Month blocks all year and have just added two patterns for finishing the quilt blocks into quilts.

The first quilt pattern set the blocks on point with simple sashing and cornerstones:

This quilt finishes at 78" x 97" and showcases the pieced blocks alternating with plain blocks perfect for showcasing machine quilting motifs.Click HERE to go to our Craftsy page with the Quilt #1 pattern.

If you are looking for a more complex pattern, then check out Quilt #2:

This amazing 66" x 82" quilt, sets the 12" blocks in a straight setting but adds pieced sashing strips resulting in a secondary star pattern. The scrappy border finishes the quilt off perfectly and ties together all of the different block designs. Click HERE to go to our Craftsy page with the Quilt #2 pattern.

Check out our Upper Canada Quiltworks Craftsy Store to see all of the individual block patterns!

New quilt pattern now available

Savile Diamonds now available

Nellie and I have been so busy since returning from Houston! This morning though I was able to find some time to get one of our newest patterns up onto our website and onto Craftsy. Here is Savile Diamonds:

Savile Diamonds pattern by Upper Canada Quiltworks
Savile Diamonds - blue version
Savile Diamonds - brown version

This one is a "manly" quilt as it uses Northcott's new flannel line of plaids prints called "Savile Row". and our pattern gives directions for both colorways. But look what happens when I use the magic of EQ to try out some other fabrics:

As you can see - it gives it a whole new look!!! If you've got a focus fabric that you would love to use in a quilt, give this pattern a try!!

Look for it on our website: Savile Diamonds

Or on Craftsy: Savile Diamonds

Wow!! After months of work Nellie and I have FINALLY released our new Tweets & Twinkles block of the month program! It is available in stores and as of today on CRAFTSY!!!

Here it is:

The fun thing about our quilt is that you don't HAVE to start with block number one. Actually The Quilted Cardinal is starting with this block first - I wonder why :)

The Crow & Pumpkin block is also a great one to start with at this time of year!!

This quilt was so much fun to design and make!! We hope you enjoy it too!!

New Block of the Month quilt to be released SOON!!!

Nellie and I have wanted to do a fusible applique Block of the Month quilt for years and this March we finally started designing it!! Since then we've been working on making the quilt and writing the patterns and I'm so happy to say that it is ALMOST DONE!!!

My sample of the quilt is actually on display now at the Quilted Cardinal in Beamsville, Ontario as they will be running the block of the month as one of their classes this fall!

We will be releasing the patterns VERY SOON, but I wanted to give you a little taste of what's to come... here are the fabrics that I selected back in March for my sample. The pattern is written for fusible applique (which is what my sample is made with), but they can be used for wool applique too (Nellie is making that version).

We can't wait to show you the patterns!!! Once the final proof reading is done they will be available at quilt shops and online!!

New Kids Quilt pattern from Upper Canada Quiltworks

Northcott has some great new fabric lines coming out and this one is super sweet!!

"A Little Birdie Told Me" is a line of flannel fabrics featuring woodland creatures, bugs and flowers and we used it to make a cute kids quilt using fusible applique circles. Our "Hip Hip Hooray" pattern makes a twin sized quilt - 65" x 81" - perfect for a little one who is just graduating from a crib to a "big girl" or "big boy" bed. And we all know how cuddly soft Northcott flannel is!!!

"Hip Hip Hooray" quilt

You can get the "Hip Hip Hooray" pattern from a quilt shop near you, or you can download an epattern from our Craftsy store. The quilt is also SUPER cute when made with a white background!!

New Halloween pattern from Upper Canada Quiltworks Publishing

WOW!!! I can't believe that it is already August 17th!! Since I was on holidays for two weeks and then I was working extra shifts at the drug store to cover other people's holidays the first half of August just seems to have vanished into thin air!!

BUT.... I have been doing lots of work at home too and a couple of the things we've been working on are new patterns for Upper Canada Quiltworks using new fabric lines from Northcott!!

The first new one is coming out just in time to sew for Halloween and it is called "More Little Tricksters" which uses Northcott's new "Happy Halloween" line.

Our pattern uses the panel from the line as well as some of the fun co-ordinates.

The pattern for "More Little Tricksters" is now available at quilt shops and in our Craftsy Store!

New Beginnings Block of the Month

August block is now available!!

Our New Beginnings Block of the Month program is moving right along and the August block is now available for download.

Here is my block - made with my awesome selection of batiks. As you can see, I've used a couple different cream batiks, a navy one, a turquoise and a peach as my accent fabric. This block is one of our more complex one and I really like it!

As I've been making the blocks I've been pressing all of the seams open - I'll admit, not one of my favourite things to do, but I'm sure that I will appreciate it when I start assembling the quilt top.

Here is a close-up showing my beautiful batik fabrics.

Visit Craftsy to download this pattern and to see the rest of the blocks for the New Beginnings Block of the Month quilt. The general directions are free to download as are two BONUS blocks

General Instructions on Craftsy

May Block of the Month

New Beginnings Block of the Month

Well, it's May Day so I've added the next block in our New Beginnings Bock of the Month to Craftsy!!

Our May block uses only three fabrics so I picked a cream with a water ripple for Fabric #1, an orange flower print for Fabric #2 and a black flower print for Fabric #3.

I used my cardboard markers to keep track of the fabrics as I cut the pieces for the block.

Here's my finished May block. My Block of the Month quilt is starting to take shape!! Don't forget to add pictures of your finished blocks to Craftsy for a chance to win our grand prize in January!!

For more information about our New Beginnings Block of the Month, download the BOM General Directions PDF from Craftsy. It is a free download!!

Block of the Month - April Block

New Beginnings Block of the Month

This is no April Fool's joke - I've just added the April block to Craftsy and it is ready for digital download!!

Here is my fabric selection for this block. As you can see, I chose to use a light turquoise for the centre of the block instead of the off-white in the pattern.

Once again, my little cardboard tags came in handy when I started cutting my shapes - it made it so much easier to keep track of what to sew to what!

Here is my finished block. I just love this one!!

April Block of the Month

There are now five blocks available in our Craftsy store. Be sure to check out our store and to download the FREE bonus block and the FREE General directions to see what our Block of the Month is all about.

At the end of the year, we will be offering two different pattern for finishing the blocks into a bed quilt.

Make sure to share pictures of YOUR finished blocks on Craftsy - for every block you add we will enter your name into our draw for a FREE quilt kit of one of our Northcott patterns!!
